Parish life — July 2026
On Sunday 12 July the Church celebrates Sea Sunday, a day dedicated to praying for seafarers, fishers, and all who work at sea. A second collection will be taken to support the vital ministry of Stella Maris, providing pastoral care, practical assistance, and spiritual support to those whose lives and livelihoods depend on the sea.
After a long hiatus since our last celebration in 2011, our parish is preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation once again. If you or your child wish to receive Confirmation, please complete a registration form — available in the Forms section below and in the church — and return it as indicated to join the preparation programme.
On Sunday 26 July — the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne — we celebrate the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. During our Family Eucharist we will honour the grandparents and elderly of our community, and pray for all parishioners celebrating a milestone or birthday in July. To include a name, please complete a slip at the back of the church and place it in the letterbox.
Bangor and Caernarfon churches need volunteers to keep these sacred spaces clean, tidy, and welcoming. Tom E. is looking for extra hands for both the indoor team (Our Lady's Cleaners United) and the outdoor group (OLSJ Outdoor Helpers) in Bangor. Contact Tom at the church.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” — Col 3:23
The usual Chaplaincy programme is suspended for the summer, but occasional events will be advertised via the Chaplaincy email list.
Confirmations: Congratulations to Nellie Grindley and Tom Everleigh, whom Bishop Peter confirmed on 26 May at the Chaplaincy (Tom was also received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church).
Graduations: Summer graduations take place 6–10 July. Let us remember the students as they move on to the next phase of their lives, and pray that they use the knowledge and skills they have learned here to make the world a better place.
The PAC and Parish Finance Committee have appointed Mr. Alan Wilkinson, Mr. Anthony Anisiobi, and Mr. Richard Allsopp to handle all boiler issues. Mr. Paul Rowlinson will manage all insurance-related issues. We thank them for their service to the parish.
Please send any news items to be published in THE FLAME — August Edition to bangorparishflame@outlook.com by the second week of July.
As a parish community, it is important that we all remain attentive to one another’s safety and wellbeing. In the event of an emergency, quick and responsible action can make a real difference. This responsibility belongs to all of us, not only to the priest at the altar.
You may have noticed the nylon ventilation cables installed around the church. These are essential for the proper ventilation of the building, as there is no other ventilation system in place. Please ensure that they are never removed, blocked, or tampered with.
We also ask everyone to be especially mindful during services. For example, if someone enters the sacristy and does not return within a reasonable time, or if the main power supply needs attention, or if the sound system or light do not function properly, it is important that someone from the assembly checks the situation. It is far easier for a parishioner to step out briefly than for the priest to leave the altar during Mass. Your awareness and care are therefore vital.
In the coming months, we hope to organise basic emergency‑response training for a small group of parish volunteers, ideally in collaboration with the local fire service. This will help us be better prepared should an emergency ever arise.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our parish a safe and caring place for all.
The card-tap donation machine in the church is currently out of order. For now, offerings can be made by direct bank transfer or by the usual cash envelopes.
Young people of the parish are invited to join the Altar Servers Ministry. Boys and girls are welcome — full training and guidance will be provided.
To join, please speak to Fr. Savi after Mass or contact the Parish Office.
