Fr. Savi’s Annual Leave — 16 Aug to 2 Sep

Fr. Savi will take the remainder of his entitled annual holiday from 16th August to 2nd September, travelling to India to visit his 91‑year‑old parents in Kerala and his new Provincial. Please note there will be no weekday Masses and no 17:00 Sunday Mass in Bangor during this time.

Funeral of Fiona Jane Walsh

The Requiem for Fiona Jane Walsh will take place on Wednesday, 5th August 2026 at 11:30am, at Our Lady & St. James Church, Bangor, followed by Cremation at 1:30pm at Bangor Crematorium. May she rest in peace.

Second Collection — 30 August

On Sunday 30 August, a second collection at all Masses will support poor parishes of our Diocese. Please support — your kindness sustains their pastoral life.

Blessing of School Bags — 5 & 6 September

As pupils return to school this September, let us begin the new academic year by seeking God’s blessing. All pupils and students are warmly invited to bring their bags, backpacks, or satchels (no uniform needed!) to Mass on 5th September (Caernarfon) and 6th September (Bangor), placing the year’s lessons, friendships, and challenges into God’s hands from the start.

Confirmation Preparation Begins in the New Academic Year

From the beginning of the new academic year, the parish intends to begin preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Since our parish has not held this sacrament since 2011, many parishioners — or their family or loved ones — may not realise they have not yet received it. Please spread this news among family and friends, so anyone who has missed out has the opportunity to come forward. Forms are available in the Forms section below and in the church, and should be completed and returned to the parish as soon as possible.

Education Sunday — 13 September

13th September is Education Sunday. Let us pray for students, teachers, and all engaged in forming our young people. A second collection will support the Education ministry’s work.

Bishop’s Visit & New School — 20 September

Bishop Peter will celebrate Holy Mass at Our Lady & St. James’ Church, Bangor, at 10am on Sunday 20th September. Afterwards, Our Lady Catholic Primary School celebrates its new building with a parade from the old school to the new. All parishioners are warmly invited!

Evangelii Gaudium Sunday — 20 September

Sunday 20th September marks Evangelii Gaudium Sunday (Home Mission Sunday). There will be a second collection to support Home Mission work across England and Wales. Please note that Mass attendance across all Sunday Masses will be recorded on this day.

Bring & Share Parish Garden Party — 26 September

All parishioners are invited to a Bring & Share Garden Party on Saturday, 26th September, from 2pm to 5pm, in the Garden of Tŷ Mair, Menai Avenue, Bangor, LL57 2HH. Join us to grow as a parish family in an atmosphere of friendship and fun. Families and friends are warmly welcome — do come along and bring someone new!

Harvest Sunday — 27 September

On Sunday 27th September, we celebrate Harvest Sunday, giving thanks to God for the gifts of the earth and for all who labour to bring food to our tables.

Family Eucharist — 27 September

On Sunday, 27th September at 10am, we will celebrate Family Eucharist for both August and September. A special blessing will also be given to all those celebrating birthdays or other milestones during Aug & Sept. Please complete a slip available at the back of the church and place it in the letterbox. Everyone is warmly welcome.

A Call for New Vestments — Chasubles

Our parish is in need of chasubles for Holy Mass. At present, we rely on a few old, ill‑fitting chasubles brought from Caernarfon; formerly, the priest used his own personal vestments. We need four chasubles, one for each liturgical colour — white, red, green, and purple. Parishioners are warmly invited to donate one in memory or honour of a loved one; with permission, a small dedication can be sewn inside. A good quality chasuble costs around £150–£200.

Pastoral Visits to the Sick & Housebound

Visiting the sick and bringing Holy Communion to those unable to attend Mass is one of our parish’s priorities. If you, a relative, or anyone you know would benefit from a pastoral visit or would like to receive Holy Communion at home, please pass on their details to Fr. Savi or a member of the parish team. Your help in identifying those in need is greatly appreciated, so that no one in our parish family is forgotten.

Bangor Parish Boiler Update

The PAC and Parish Finance Committee have appointed Mr. Alan Wilkinson, Mr. Anthony Anisiobi, and Mr. Richard Allsopp to handle all boiler issues. Mr. Paul Rowlinson will manage all insurance-related issues. We thank them for their service to the parish.

Parish Safety and Emergency Awareness

As a parish community, it is important that we all remain attentive to one another’s safety and wellbeing. In the event of an emergency, quick and responsible action can make a real difference. This responsibility belongs to all of us, not only to the priest at the altar.

You may have noticed the nylon ventilation cables installed around the church. These are essential for the proper ventilation of the building, as there is no other ventilation system in place. Please ensure that they are never removed, blocked, or tampered with.

We also ask everyone to be especially mindful during services. For example, if someone enters the sacristy and does not return within a reasonable time, or if the main power supply needs attention, or if the sound system or light do not function properly, it is important that someone from the assembly checks the situation. It is far easier for a parishioner to step out briefly than for the priest to leave the altar during Mass. Your awareness and care are therefore vital.

In the coming months, we hope to organise basic emergency‑response training for a small group of parish volunteers, ideally in collaboration with the local fire service. This will help us be better prepared should an emergency ever arise.

Card-Tap Donation Machine

The card-tap donation machine in the church is currently out of order. For now, offerings can be made by direct bank transfer or by the usual cash envelopes.

Altar Servers

Young people of the parish are invited to join the Altar Servers Ministry. Boys and girls are welcome — full training and guidance will be provided.
